The Games that Shaped Us (#2)

Written by

Each month, a different member of the team will sit down to tell us about the games that hold a special place in their heart. These are the games that shaped us, and this week it's the turn of Customer Service Executive Sarah.

Back to the 90s

As a 90’s baby, I grew up in the peak age for game console development. I was a PlayStation kid, hands down and without question. With other consoles such as SEGA Dreamcast, the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy to choose from it was a close race. After going back to check out the games that I still hold dear to this day, it’s easy to see why PlayStation was the top winner for me.Playing video games has always been a huge part of my life. It started as a kid playing SEGA classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist, and Wrestle War (whenever my brother would let me play). The love affair continues to this day with my PlayStation 4.

Gotta Catch 'Em All

My love for gaming was nurtured by the release of the original GameBoy and the classic Pokemon games in all their 8-bit glory. Thinking of them still pulls on the nostalgic heartstrings to this day, so it was inevitable that I had to get my hands on a Switch and a copy of Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu (as much as I love Eevee, Pikachu is my number 1).

Girl Power

I’ve been a PlayStation fan since the day I picked up by brothers controller. I was introduced early on to the world of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil. That said, my favourite above all else was always Tomb Raider. Having a female-led franchise was everything to me. As a young girl, who wants to play as a smelly boy? Also who could resist locking the butler in the walk-in fridge, not me that’s for sure!

The Remaster Treatment

As much as I hold these games close to my heart, I’m not really one for retro gaming. The development of gaming graphics in just 20 years is insane. I can’t tear myself away from how realistic and beautiful games these days look. Which is why the fact that my favourite titles as a child are either being rebooted or continued on current gen consoles certainly makes me a happy gamer.
